What is Mtk Preloader USB VCOM Port Driver?

Mtk Preloader USB VCOM Port Driver is a specific USB driver that enables your Windows PC to connect and communicate with a MediaTek-powered Android device over a USB connection. The driver is also known as MediaTek USB VCOM Driver or MediaTek Preloader Driver.

The main purpose of this driver is to help your PC detect the device's preloader, which is a proprietary loader developed by MediaTek. The preloader is responsible for executing the kernel and defining how the Android system is booted. It can also act as an interface to download/flash firmware files to the NAND memory of the device, where the Android OS resides. This is similar to the EDL mode on Qualcomm Android devices.

So, you will need to install the Mtk Preloader USB VCOM Port Driver on your PC if you want to flash the stock ROM for unbricking the device or upgrading the software on it. You can also use this driver to install custom binaries like TWRP recovery, Magisk Root, and more. Furthermore, this driver also helps you transfer files to/from your Android device over MTP protocol, and operate with Android tools like ADB and Fastboot.
